Best Friend

Here is one of the swaps I did for a Occasions Mini Swap.  I had to feature a stamp set from the mini.  I chose to do Full of Life (again).

Does this card look familiar?  It's eerily similar to yesterday's card.  I just changed a few things.  I really like this layout and well, I changed enough that it looks like a totally different card.  Hey, if you find a layout that works, why not?  *wink*

Here's the recipe for this card:
Stamps: Full of Life
Cardstock: Naturals White, Sahara Sand, Ruby Red, Blue Bayou, Soft Sky
Ink: Blue Bayou
Designer Series Paper: Western Sky
Ribbon: Blue Bayou Double Stitched Grosgrain
Tools: Paper Piercer, Mat Pack, Distresser Tool

Don't forget to come back to this blog on March 1.  There will be a link to the Occasions mini posted.

If you have any questions about this card, feel free to contact me at Michelle@stampworkshop.com

A Couple of Items...

Did you notice?  My blog has hit more than 20,000!  Wow.  I never would have thought such a thing was possible.  I had 10,000 hits in just about two months time.  Yeah, the blog candy I offered had a  little to do with it, but people are actually reading, just to read!  lol  You all amaze me.  I get the nicest comments and emails from you all.  Thank you!

The second thing.  I want to give a shout out to the newest member of my downline.  Carol!  Welcome to the team!

Celebrate Today

Here is one of the swaps I did for a Spring Summer 08 Collections Swap.  I had to feature a stamp set that debuted in the SS08 catalog.  Here I used Celebrate Everything.

I finally cracked into my stash of Flower Fusion Accents & Elements.  I have a tendency to collect, ummm I mean purchase, the latest and greatest Stampin' Up! products.  In case you haven't heard about these, they are felt flowers.  They retail for $14.95 and come in a cute tin.  There are over 130 flowers that come in various flower sizes and shapes.  The flower colors are Pumpkin Pie, Rose Red and Old Olive.  In case you want to look them up in your catalog, they are on page 177 (item #110720).

Here's the recipe for this card:
Stamps: Celebrate Everything
Cardstock: Whisper White, Taken with Teal, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie
Ink: Rose Red
Designer Series Paper: Bali Breeze, Rose Red Prints
Ribbon: Pumpkin Pie Gorsgrain
Accessories: Flower Fusion Accents & Elements, Gold Brad
Tools: Paper Piercer, Mat Pack, Distresser Tool

The layout for this card was inspired by this one that I saw on SCS.

Fairytale

Here's one of the six swaps that I have been working on in the last couple of weeks.  I made this card for a Occasions Mini swap that Britta hosted on SCS.  (HI Britta!)

The swaps I've been in have ranged from 8 cards to 18 cards.  For this swap, I needed to make 10 cards.  Check out those hearts.  First I stamped it on Whisper White with Basic Black.  Then I stamped it on Real Red also with Basic Black.  Then I cut them out.  I cut out 40 hearts!  I would buy a punch that fit this in a heartbeat.  *chuckle*  Get it?  Heartbeat?  tee hee

The products in the Occasions Mini are available from March 1 - May 31.  Be sure to come back on March 1.  I'll post a link to the Occasions Mini at that time.

For this swap, I made a card featuring the stamp set "Full of Life".  It is a 7 stamp set.  It is a sayings set, meaning there are only sayings and no images.  I like this set.  The fonts in each saying are different for certain words with bold, italics, etc.  Here are the sayings in this set:

  • Thanks ... not just for the BIG things you do, but all the wonderful little things too!
  • A BEST FRIEND is someone who brings out the BEST in YOU.
  • If at FIRST you do succeed, try not to look ASTONISHED.
  • Once in a while, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of ORDINARY life, Love gives us a FAIRYTALE.
  • Life is what HAPPENS to you while you're BUSY making other plans. ~John Lennon
  • May every part of your BIRTHDAY have happy in it!
  • a new HAND to hold, a new heart to LOVE, a new LIFE to lead.

Here's the recipe for this card:
Stamps: Full of Life, Always (hearts), Baroque Motifs
Cardstock: Real Red, Basic Black, Whisper White
Ink: Basic Black
 Ribbon: Basic Black Grosgrain
Accessories: Vellum
Tools: Distresser Tool, Paper Snips

Don't forget to visit this blog on March 1 to see the online Occasions Mini.  You can send an order directly from this website!  To do so, just click on the "Order Now" icon on the left hand side.

If you have any questions about this card or if you'd like to place an order, feel free to contact me at Michelle@stampworkshop.com.

A Few Months Old

As you may know, I am an avid swapper.  I'm an avid swapper that tends to over do it sometimes!

Stampin' Up! is releasing a new mini catalog - the Occasions Mini - on March 1.  Usually when a new mini is debuted, demos can preorder a month before the release to the general public.  This is so demos can make samples for their customers to ohhh and ahhh over.

Well, if you remember back when SAB was announced, I joined a TON of swaps.  Well, with this new mini, I joined a TON of swaps.  As a result, my poor blog has been totally neglected.  I am *still* working on a couple of more swaps.  When I'm completely done, I'll post what I came up with.

In the meantime, here is a card I did a few months back.  It was done for a Show Us What You Can Do Swap for a invite only demo swap group that I host.  (Yes, I sign up for swaps AND I host them!  Not to mention that I  help moderate the swap forums on SCS.  But, I am going off on a tangent aren't I?)  Anyway... here's a card for you to take a look at until I have something more recent to post.

Here's the recipe for this card:
Stamps: En Francais, True Friend, Baroque Motifs
Cardstock: Bravo Burgundy, Old Olive, Whisper White, Pale Plum
Ink: pale Plum, Purely Pomegranate, Old Olive
Ribbon: 5/8" Old Olive Grosgrain, Whisper White Grosgrain, Bravo Burgundy Grosgrain
Accessories: Bravo burgundy Marker, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Rhinestone Brad, Foam Tape
Tools: Oval Punches, Paper Piercer, Mat Pack, Ticket Punch

If you have any questions about this card, feel free to contact me at Michelle@stampworkshop.com

Yikes!

So I went to check my feedburner today and it appeared that more than half my readers unsubscribed!  My heart skipped a beat and I thought to myself, "Wow!  what could I have possible typed to offend so many people???"  Is my blog boring, do my samples suck?  What could it be???

Well, it turns out that feedburner is having problems today.  Feedburner can't "see" my readers on Google Reader (my reader of choice).  Yippee!  So, it is not me!

I have since recovered from my heart skipping that beat, but now I want to take this opportunity to ask you all: What do you want?  What kinds of things would you like to see on my blog?  Suggest some tutorials.  Ask me some questions.  What would make you come back and check my blog more often?

Leave me a comment and let me know what you think!  I'm happy to hear it.

Anaheim Regionals

I finally had a chance to get all my pictures in order from Stampin' Up! Anaheim Regionals.  Aside from Convention every summer, Stampin' Up! hold regional seminars throughout the year.  The one in Southern California was held Feb 1 & 2.   This is a picture of me and Shelli, the founder and owner of Stampin' Up!

Here is the link to all the pictures: Anaheim Regionals Album

I was able to take pictures of all the display boards they had up for us to see.    In the album you will see some great cards made by demos from all over the country.  There are also some wonderful projects.

Of course, you can't go to something like Regionals and not take pics of all your buds.  So, there are a few people pics in the album too.

If you are a demo and see your card pictured, be sure to let me know! I will edit the info and credit you with the card so everyone can ohh and ahh over your beautiful work!  (Email me at Michelle@stampworkshop.com

Enjoy!

Card Positioning Systems

Have you ever been at a loss when trying to design the layout for your card?  Well, today's feature is a very useful website that helps you layout the perfect card.  Check out Card Positioning Systems.  This wonderful blog displays a new card layout every week.  Then it provides links of some very fabulous cards made with that layout.  The site has been around for just over a year now and has over 50 layouts posted.  So next time to have crafter's block.  Check them out!

A Kiss and Some Love

In honor of Valentine's day, this week's technique is an oldie, but goodie.  The kissing technique.

This is a great and easy technique to give your bold images a little bit of design to them.  Notice on this card, each of the letters has a different design on it.  This was done by "kissing" the stamps together.

This is what you do...
First, find a bold image stamp.  Here I used the retired set Headline Alphabet.

Then, to give the bold stamp a design, pick a stamp or two with intricate designs.  In this example I used all SU background stamps.  The "L" uses Paisley, the "O" uses Weathered, the "V" uses Canvas and the "E" uses En Francais.

Place your background stamp rubber side up.  Ink it liberally.  Then, take your bold stamp and stamp it onto the background stamp.  Basically you are using the background stamp as an ink pad.  This is the "kiss".  The pattern will now be "kissed" onto your bold stamp.

To moisten the ink on the bold stamp, huff on it.  Now, stamp your image onto your paper.  There you go!

Here's the recipe for this card:
Stamps: Headline Alphabet, Always, Paisley, Weathered, Canvas, En Francais
Cardstock: Pretty in Pink, Close to Cocoa, Purely Pomegranate
Ink: Close to Cocoa, Purely Pomegranate
Designer Series Paper: Berry Bliss
Ribbon: Pretty in Pink Grosgrain, Purely Pomegranate Double Stitched Ribbon
 Tools: Ticket Punch, Circle Punches

If you have any questions about this card, feel free to contact me at Michelle@stampworkshop.com

I'm Baahck!

So, CHA was fun, fun, fun!  Not only did I see some fabulous new products lines, but I got to hook up with some really neat SCSers.  I didn't take TONS of pictures, but I did take a few.

There really is a lot to see at CHA, and you need a few days to see it all.  I typically go for two days, so there is a lot that I missed.  My impressions of it.  Hmmm.  Here are a few...

  • BIRDS!  Everyone and their mother has one of those Partridge family birds in their lines.
  • Clear stamps.  I noticed a HUGE increase in clear stamps.  Many "non stamp" companies have added clear stamps to their product lines.
  • Class kits.  Craft companies are starting to catch on to the whole class kit concept.  Many of them were offering class kits directly to the LSS (Local Scrapbook Stores) for purchase.
  • "Darker" papers.  I'm not sure if it was my imagination, but there seemed to be less girlie, springy, shabby chic papers.  Don't get me wrong, there was TONS of that stuff, but there was an increase in more masculine colors and designs.  (I personally *loved* that.  Most paper if too frilly for me.)
  • Attendance was down.  There didn't seem to be as many people there this year.  Aisle were more clear and lines were shorter.

What did I like?  Here are some comments...

  • Clearsnap: Owned by Shelli Gardner and her husband Sterling.  They debuted this new product line called Memory Essentials. Think of the SU wheel handles in lime green.  Those are in the line, but another thing that caught my eye was the handle with an adhesive wheel.  The salesperson talking to me said that SU wasn't going to carry this, but she also said that she really didn't know.  Anyway, this adhesive wheel was to make your own design.  she showed it with rubber bands around it, rubber grommits, sandpaper.  Anything, now get this... she said you can adhere clear stamps to make your own wheel...
  • Provo Craft: They always have the BEST make-n-takes and the BEST giveaways.  They give away Cricuts, Cuttlebugs, Cuttlebug Kids and Cricut Expressions.  Check out my Make-n-Take album for all the cool projects I made.
  • Making Memories: They debuted the Slice.  Essentially a protable Cricut.  Instead of sliding the paper in like a printer, the blade is on the bottom and you place it over the paper.  Very small and portable.  One interesting note.  I saw this product debuted at last year's CHA with a small, brand new company (can't think of their name right now) that was in the "new exhibitors" section.  I'd like to think that MM bought the little company for this product...
  • Cosmo Cricket: They have new black-core chipboard.  I liked this because black is my favorite color, but also so that when you do projects you don't have drab grey poking out the sides.
  • Little Yellow Bicycle: I thought they had the coolest booth.  Very nice!  I lover their new Zach's Life line - all boy, but not little boy, more teenage/college.  I also loved their new Vita Bella line.  A victorian line with dark blues and navy, browns, greens.  Very pretty!
  • Stampotique: They had several stamp lines, but my favorite one was this Goth/Nightmare Before Christmas line.  Check it out in my vendor album.

Oh, there were so many neat things I saw.  There are too many things to list!  Check out my make-n-take album and vendor albums for a few pictures.

I didn't take tons of pictures of products because you are typically supposed to ask before you take pictures, unless you have a press pass.  I didn't want to have to ask every time I went to a different booth.  I can be a little shy sometimes.  lol

So, who did I see?  Well, not anyone famous like from TV or movies, but I did see some big SCS names.  Hmmm.  Let's see if I can remember.  There are a bunch in my People album so I won't mention them here, but there are some that I didn't get pictures of.  I saw Trudee (trudee) at the copics booth (she was busy demoing a really COOL air compressor to do air brushing with copics).  I got to see Natasha (tashers), Barbara (OldStmpr), Ellen (EllenH), Sharon (StamperSharon), Jen (genie1314).  I saw Emily from StampingBella and Kristi from Hanna Stamps.  I was bummed that I didn't get to meet Jeanne (Jeanne S) and Sherry (BadSherry).  Anyway, check out my People Album for more familiar faces.

Here are the links to my photo albums...

Thanks for reading!  Enjoy the pictures!  Be sure to join in on my CHA Giveaways!

CHA FAQ

I got a few questions (sounds like Wonder Wednesday to me!) and I'd like to address them here...

1. Who was I with?  This typically meant what company did I go to CHA to represent.  I didn't represent any company.  I am not on any design teams.  I went to CHA with me, myself and I.  I know someone who is a member that distributes her spare tickets.  I live not to far from Anaheim, so I once a year I get to get away from kids and do something really fun that is not kid related!  lol

2. Can anyone go? You have to be a member of CHA or be somehow affiliated with the craft industry to go.  To be a member, you pay a membership fee and have to meet certain criteria.

3. You only use SU products.  Why do you go?  Although I do use mainly SU products, and this blog is exclusively SU, I go to get ideas about what to do for my classes.  I also go to see how up to date SU is within the craft industry.  And well, hey, what crafter can pass up seeing all the fun, new toys???

4. Can you buy things there?  The CHA show isn't like a scrapbook expo.  Retailers can place orders, but teachers, educators and the like can not.  This is some serious buying and the minimum purchase is definitely for resale markets.

I hope to go again next year (if it is Anaheim again).  Next year, will be my third year and I hope to take more notes and more pictures so that I can have more extensive coverage on my blog.  The more you go and the more you know.  Third times a charm and all those other cliches.  lol

Thanks for reading and be sure to check out by CHA Giveaway!

CHA Giveaways

I know I *just* gave away some blog candy, but here we go again!  I had such a nice time at CHA and received so many neat things and make-n-takes.  Well, no matter how hard I try, I remain an SUO (Stampin' Up! Only) kinda girl.  So, I thought I'd pass on the love!

Although there is only one picture, there will be TWO winners.  The first winner will get the CHA Exclusive Daisy Chain Cricut Cartridge.  I don't own a Cricut, so I'm handing this off.  For this prize, I ask that you please, please own a Cricut and use this for your personal use.  Do not resell this!  Bad karma will follow you!  Consider this a hex.  *wink*

The second winner will receive the very cool Xyron Disposable Sticker Maker, the Maya Road stamp set and the Hero Arts Stamp set.

So, enter this blog candy contest by leaving me a comment.  Please indicate whether or not you own a Cricut.  Cricut owners will be placed in one "lottery" and Non-Cricut owners will be placed in another.

Good luck.  Don't forget to tell your friends, family, neighbors, hairstylist, manicurist, everyone about my blog!  lol  I will pick a the winners on Sunday and post on Monday.

Check out my CHA post and take a peak at the photos I took!

Wow.

So I've gone through and reread some of my posts.  No matter how many times I think I've proofread something, I still have errors.  Consider this a blanket apology for all my past and future spelling and grammatical errors!  (insert wink smiley here)  lol

I'll be MIA for a few days...

Just wanted to let you all know that I will not be posting for a few days.  I will be AFK (away from keyboard).  Why you ask?  Well, I am going to the CHA Show!  Yippee!  What is the CHA Show?  Here's a short summary direct from the CHA website:

The Craft & Hobby Associations' Winter Convention and Trade Show is more than just another show. It's where the world of crafts and hobbies come together under one roof in a massive burst of creativity, education, inspiration and commerce. Over $30 billion is spent annually in this industry, and the CHA Winter Convention and Trade Show is where all that buying begins. If you want your share of this powerful market, join us in Anaheim. It's the craft and hobby world's fair.

I went last year and it was so much fun.  Every craft company you can think of was there.  Over 20k attendees. When I come back, I'll post some pictures.  Until then, happy stampin'!

We have a winner!!!

I want to thank everyone for joining in on my Blog Candy give away!  All the comments were so wonderful and very fun to read.

On to the winner!  The winner is...

Peony Thanks

So I have been a swappin' fool lately!  I guess that's what happens when a new catalog debuts, a new mini appears, Sale-A-Bration comes along and Regionals take place.  I can't seem to resist joining swaps to get samples for my customers.

Here's one that I did for Kim's new SS08 swap.  I made three cards for this swap.  Here is one of them.  I was to make a card using Pretty Peony.  Some people think there are way too many flower sets in the catalog.  Well, my feeling is that you can't have too many flower stamps!  They are so useful.  They are appropriate for birthday cards, Mother's day, Valentine's day, sympathy, thank you, get well, thinking of you, miss you, love you, and on and on!

I love these two step stamps.  They look complicated, but it is really easy.  I "eyeballed" these, but if you use a Stamp-a-ma-jig, you get flawless flowers.  I would've used my SAMJ, but  couldn't find the imaging sheets!  Here's s tip: store the SAMJ and the imaging sheets together!  lol

To do two step stamping, you want to use two colors that go well together.  One dark and one light.  Stamp the bold image first using the lighter color.  Then stamp the detailed stamp over the bold image using the darker color.

I kept this card simple because I thought the flower was great without all the bells and whistles!

Here's the recipe for this card:
Stamps: Pretty Peony, Sincere Salutations
Cardstock: Very Vanilla, Regal Rose, Certainly Celery Textured Cardstock
Ink: Rose Red, Regal Rose, Old Olive, Certainly Celery
 Ribbon: Old Olive
Tools: Paper Piercer, Distresser Tool, Stipple Brush

If you have any questions about this card, feel free to contact me at Michelle@stampworkshop.com

Occasions Mini Sneak Peek

This week's technique is adding dimension to your creations.

Here is a sneak peek of one of the sets from the upcoming Occasions Mini.  The set used is called Friendly Flowers.  It is a four stamp set and retails for $22.95.  It will be available beginning March 1.

Notice the different layers of the main image.  Layering the image and raising them a bit gives your creations just a bit of dimension.  Here's what I did for this card...

I stamped this main image a total of four times.  First it is on the white layer.  It is hard to see, but I stippled Pretty in Pink ink with a stipple brush all around the flower.

Next, it is stamped on the main layer of the medallion.  I stamped it on Whisper White and cut around the first dotted outline (the main image has a double dotted outline).  Then the Pretty in Pink layer of the medallion was punched out using the Scalloped Circle punch, then rotating it slightly and punching again.  The last piece is the center.  It is the very center of the image punched with a 3/4" circle punch.  There is a pink brad in the center covered with Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamond Glitter.

The Dazzling Diamond Glitter is adhered using Crystal Effects.  It is quite sparkly, although you can't quite see it in the picture.

Here's the recipe for this card:
Stamps: Friendly Flowers, Embrace Life
Cardstock: Purely Pomegranate, Pretty in Pink, Close to Cocoa, Whisper White
Ink: Purely Pomegranate, Pretty in Pink
Designer Series Paper: Berry Bliss
Ribbon: Purely Pomegranate Double Stitched Grosgrain
Accessories: Distresser Tool, Paper Piercer, Mat Pack, 3/4" Circle Punch, Scalloped Circle Punch, Dazzling Diamond Glitter, Glue Dots, Brad, Crystal Effects

Anaheim SU Regionals Swap Card #2

Here is another swap card I made for the organized swap I hosted at Regionals.

I love using designer series paper on my cards.  I have tons of background stamps, but I find that DSP is so much easier!

Here's the recipe for this card:
Stamps: Big Flowers, Warm Words
Cardstock: Whisper White, Old Olive
Ink: Old Olive, Soft Sky
Accessories: Fall Flowers DSP, Soft Sky DSP, Soft Sky Double Stitched Grosgrain, Scalloped Circle Punch, Circle Punch, Brad, Distresser Tool

Feel free to contact me at Michelle@stampworkshop.com with any questions about this card.

Don't forget to look at my blog candy post!

Now How Did THAT Happen???

How the heck did this happen??  My blog has received over 15,000 hits!  I got 5,000 hits in just about a month's time.  And no, it is not me clicking on my site over and over again.  lol

So, I am totally blown away by the lovely comments and emails that I am receiving.  I am especially thankful for the orders that have been coming in because of this blog.

Here's some fun trivia about the visitors to my blog:

  • The dinner hour (1800-1859) is the busiest time for visitors - don't you all eat???
  • Mondays are the busiest days.  (I am assuming it's because no one wants to work!  lol)
  • My first week posting I had 29 unique visitors, last week I had 839.  (Unique visitors are those whose ISPs have not been logged by my site before, although it is not an *exact* science.)
  • Most of my visitors come from links from another website.  The website with the most referrals to my blog is SplitCoastStampers.  (Look for me on SCS!)
  • Google is the most often used search engine to find this blog and "stampin" is the most often used keyword.  (Well, it IS a Stampin' Up! related blog!)
  • I've had visitors from 32 different countries.  Most of my visitors are from the US.

Well, to thank all my readers, I am once again offering up blog candy!  There are a few things you can do to gain an entry.  Complete any or all of the items below.  For each one you complete you get one entry for my blog candy.  Here we go:

  1. Leave a comment on this post.
  2. Subscribe to my blog by clicking on "Subscribe to my Feed" on the left hand side.
  3. Join my email newsletter list.
  4. Link this site to your blogroll.
  5. Write a post on your blog letting everyone know about my blog candy.  You can use the trackback feature if you know how!

If you've already done any of these things, just let me know (for instance, you already subscribe to my blog).  When you leave your comment, let me know which item number(s) you completed.   I will take your comments as "Stampers Honor" but if you win, I will verify as best I can!

Oh!  I guess I should tell you what you are playing for.  Drum roll please.....

The winner will receive $30 in Stampin' Up! product.

This is $30 worth of product, not including S&H and tax (which is also on me, so you pay nothing - as long as what you pick is $30 or less.)  This is not save $30 with a certain amount purchase.  This is a straight $30.  Think of all the goodies $30 can get you... Did I say it was $30???  *wink*

Please, please, please leave a way for me to contact you.  If you don't leave enough info, I can't contact you.  This blog candy contest ends on Friday, February 8.  I will pick a winner and post on Saturday, February 9.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

Anaheim SU Regionals Swap Card #1

Friday February 1 was Stampin' Up! Regionals held in Anaheim, CA.  It was the first time they held Regionals in California.  I was very excited to be able to go.  I am going to Convention in the summer time, but I needed a SU event fix!  lol

I hosted an SCS swap in which there were 3 groups of 10.  I got some wonderful swaps and had a chance to chat with and meet some wonderful SCSers!  I wish I had thought to snap a picture of us all!

I do have a whole album of photos that I took including pictures of some of the demos the demo group I am part of, pictures of hundreds of fabulous sample cards and pictures of some of the projects and techniques they showcased at Regionals.  I will post a link to the album once I have it all done.

So, this is one of the swap cards I did.  You might notice that there are certain elements that I almost always use.  They are Designer Series Paper, Distresser Tool, Ribbon, Paper Piercer and of course a stamp SU image.

Here's the recipe for this card:
Stamps: Always
Cardstock: Pumpkin Pie, Taken with Teal, Old Olive
Ink: Taken with Teal, Old Olive
Accessories: Pumpkin Pie Grosgrain, Circle Punches, Distresser tool, Paper Piercer, Bali Breeze Designer Series Paper.

Feel free to contact me at Michelle@stampworkshop.com with any questions about this card.

Here's the recipe for this card:
Stamps: Always
Cardstock: Ruby Red, River Rock, Blue Bayou, Soft Sky
